About Smuth Suspension 170 ml
Smuth Suspension 170 ml belongs to the group of medicines called laxatives used to treat constipation associated with piles, anal fissure, hernia, cardiovascular disorder, endoscopy, bowel clearance before radioscopy, pre/post-operative conditions, elderly and bed-ridden patients. Constipation refers to infrequent bowel movements in which the stools are often dry, painful and hard to pass.
Smuth Suspension 170 ml is a combination of three drugs, namely: Sodium picosulphate (stimulant laxative), magnesium hydroxide (osmotic laxative) and liquid paraffin (lubricant). Sodium picosulphate works by preventing the absorption of water in the colonic lumen and stimulates the propulsive activity of the colon, thereby promotes accumulation of water. Magnesium hydroxide works by increasing the osmotic gradient in the gut by drawing the water into the intestine, thereby helps in bowel evacuation. Liquid paraffin works by lubricating the bowels and softens the stools. Together, Smuth Suspension 170 ml helps in providing relief from constipation.
You can take Smuth Suspension 170 ml with or without food. Take the prescribed dose/quantity by mouth using the measuring cup provided by the pack, shake the bottle well before each use. You are advised to take Smuth Suspension 170 ml for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. You may experience certain common side-effects such as diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, pain or cramps in some cases. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.
To treat your condition effectually, continue taking Smuth Suspension 170 ml for as long as your doctor has prescribed. Drink plenty of fluids (at least 6-8 glasses) while taking Smuth Suspension 170 ml to prevent dehydration. Do not take Smuth Suspension 170 ml for more than a week as it might cause dependency on Smuth Suspension 170 ml for a bowel movement. Talk to your doctor if you notice any sudden changes in bowel habits that persist for over 2 weeks. Consult your doctor before taking Smuth Suspension 170 ml if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Smuth Suspension 170 ml should not be given to children as the safety and effectiveness have not been established.
